Spoofed Twitter Spam

We’re seeing more an more spoofed Twitter spam being sent to trick twitter users into visiting online pharmacology websites.

Most arrive with a simple subject line:

Subject:     You have notifications pending

Sending addresses will look like otherwise legitimate notification addresses such as:
  • From:     “Twitter” <twitter-notify-login= This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it >
  • From:     “Twitter” <twitter-notify-login= This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it >

The layout of these bogus notifications is quite realistic; enough so that many users are actually releasing these messages from spam quarantine under the mistaken belief that they are legitimate Twitter notifications falsely blocked by spam filtering.

While the emails appear authentic, the hyperlinks contained lead to hacked company web sites such as:

These in turn redirect to a variety of spam host sites such as pillsrxdiscountmeds.net and canadadrugs.com among countless others.
