Super Critical Patch
As part of today’s “Patch Tuesday” release of 14 security patches and bug fixes, Microsoft has released 4 “critical” patches – the first being deemed “Super Critical” on the same scale as the Heartbleed exploit discovered earlier this year.
The critical patches are to fix vulnerabilities in Microsoft Secure Channel, Windows OLE, Internet Explorer and Windows XML Core Services.
Without these patches, attackers are able to remotely run code to take over the victim’s computer although it should be noted that attacks like this have not been seen in the wild at present, however now that the exploit has been made public by the release of the patch it is only a matter of time before it is used as part of malicious attacks.
Therefore it is imperative that affected systems (anything running Windows including servers) are patched ASAP.
