Should I stay with Sky broadband?
If you are a BE customer you probably already know they have been bought out by Sky. You should have received a welcome letter or email informing you of a change in your login details is imminent (usually within 7 days of receiving the letter). So what do you do now? Should you just change the login details and carry on regardless?
Before you make that decision, make sure it is an informed one.
Main points to consider:
- Do you use more than 1 static public IP address? If you do, you will need to look for another provider. Sky do NOT offer more than 1 static public IP address to their business customers.
- After being switched to the Sky network you may find you have trouble sending emails out to certain customers. If any of your customers use anti spam systems you may start to get treated as junk mail. The normal procedure for resolving this would be to ask your provider to add a reverse DNS record on your IP address. This basically means that when they look at the return address, it resolves back to you. Sky do NOT offer this facility to their business customers.
- Sky will charge you for not having their Sky Talk or Sky TV. It seams their main focus is domestic customers so they will charge you an extra £5 per month for the absence of Sky Talk and an extra £2.50 per month for the absence of Sky TV. There is also a £0.50 handling charge for debit and credit card payments. These figures are taken directly from an email received by one of our customers from sky@skymail.sky.com
