When an accountant can’t sign into the hosted desktop, they lose access to every system at once, their tax software, document management, email and files, so it needs fixing fast. The causes are usually the connection gateway, a stuck session, or a credential or MFA issue. The answer is to resolve it quickly and then monitor the cause so the same fault can’t recur silently. On a hosted desktop, sign-in is the single door to everything, which is exactly why it has to be reliable.
A login failure on a hosted desktop is more disruptive than on a normal PC. Here’s how we handle it.
1. Check the gateway and broker
Hosted desktops are reached through a gateway and a connection broker. If one has a problem, people can’t get on. We check that path first and clear any blockage so sign-in works again.
2. Clear a stuck session
Sometimes a user’s previous session hasn’t closed cleanly, which blocks the new one. We reset the session so they can log back in, often within minutes.
3. Sort credentials and MFA
Expired passwords, locked accounts or an MFA hiccup all stop sign-in. Because we manage access and MFA, these are quick for us to put right and get the user back to work.
4. Monitor so it can’t recur silently
After fixing it, we flag the cause for monitoring. If a gateway or server fault is behind it, we’d rather catch it early next time than have the whole team locked out without warning.
A real example: back on quickly
We support a London accountancy practice serving music and entertainment clients where a user was repeatedly unable to remote onto the hosted desktop, locking them out of every app at once. We cleared the blockage, restored access and put it under monitoring. As one user told us after a quick fix: “Thank you for resolving our issue so quickly.”
For most music and entertainment accountancy firms, this sits within fully managed IT at about £45 to £100 per user per month, billed per user, with secure remote access and the protection client data needs built in.
